Abstract

A novel series of organobentonites were prepared by the reaction of bentonite (abbr. B) with bis-pyridinium dibromides, and their structures have been characterized by XRD, FT-IR, SEM and TEM. Also, the modification conditions were optimized when hexamethylene bis-pyridinium dibromides (abbr. HEMBP) was taken as a template. The maximum adsorbance and adsorption equilibrium appeared under the following conditions; L/S =50 mL: 1 g, T = 60 ℃ , t=3 h, pH =6.26 (natural). In addition, the adsorption of phenol by these organobentonites were studied. The results showed that the length of carbon chain between the two pyridine rings in bis-pyridinium dibromides should not be too short or too long, only the proper length could increase the removal rate of phenol to 80%.
