Abstract
Objective: To study the clinical pathological features, diagnosis and differential diagnosis for ovarian small cell
carcinoma. Methods: A case of ovarian small cell carcinoma was examined by HE staining and immunohistochemical staining and the relevant literatures were reviewed. Results: Histologically, the tumor was composed predominantly of round or polygon cells which arranged in solid sheet or cord-like pattern. Abundant acidophilia or clear cytoplasm and obvious atypia were seen in some cells. Adenoid pattern was displayed in spindle cell area. Round and mitoses nucleus were usually seen. Extensive necrosis and the arrangement of the viable cells around blood vessels were seen, which is similar to ovary transitional cell carcinoma. Immunohistochemically, the round cells were positive for pancytokeratin (CKpan), epithelial membranous antigen (EMA), CD99 but negative for chromogranin A (CgA), syanptophysin (Syn),leucocyte common antigen (LCA), inhibinaand a-fetoprotein(AFP). The spindle cells were positive for CKpan and vimentin but negative for smooth muscle actin (SMA), myogeninDl(MyoDl), S-100 protein. Conclusion: The ovarian small cell carcinoma is a rare aggressive tumor without differentiation or little differentiation. It should be distinguished from small cell carcinoma, granuiosa cell tumor, poorly-differentiated adenocarcinoma, high-grade severe carcinoma, transitional cell carcinoma and malignant mixed mesodermal tumor.关键词
