Degradation of bisphenol A from water by ultrasound/zero-valent iron

Abstract
The efficiency and affecting factors of bisphenol A (BPA) degradation in water were studied by uhrasound/zero-valent iron (US/Fe^0). The experimental results indicated that US/Fe^0 was more effective to de- grade BPA than US or Fe^0 alone in water. Fe^0 existed synergistic effects on the degradation of BPA. The degra- dation process was well described by the first-order kinetics. The Fe^0 had dual function for promoting and inhibi- ting degradation. The greater of ultrasonic power, the better of the degradation rate of BPA. When the initial concentration of BPA is lower, the degradation rate of BPA becomes greater. The condition of lower pH value is conducive to the degradation of BPA. The presence of hydroxyl radical capture (n-butanol) restrains the degra- dation efficiency of bisphenol A. Combining US with Fe^0 to treat BPA for 2 h, the TOC removal is little,which shows that the mineralization efficiency of BPA is incomplete.关键词
