Joint Timing and Phase Estimation Algorithm for CPM Signals

Abstract
A joint timing and carrier phase estimation algorithm is proposed for the synchronization problem of Continuous Phase Modulation (CPM) based on decision data. After using Laurent representation to express CPM signals, Timing Error Detector(TED) and Phase Error Detector (PED) are got from the joint likelihood function of riming and carrier phase. After finding the instant gradient, the estimated timing and phase value is recovered by iteration computation. After analyzing the common binary partial response CPM signals such as PCM/FM, the implementation scheme of joint timing and carrier phase estimation algorithm is designed. Simulation result shows that the proposed algorithm is suited for binary partial response CPM signals. The timing and carrier phase error variance curve is close to the theoretical limit.关键词
