Abstract
Objective To explore the protective effects of nerve growth factor on focal cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury in rats. Methods Thread embolism was performed to establish focal cerebral ischemia-reperfusion model in rates. After treatment of NGF, TNF-α, IL-1, IL-6, MDA and SOD content were measured, and cortical neurons apoptosis were detected by TUNEL. Results Compared with IR group, TNF-α, IL-1β of NGF groups decreased significantly, and SOD activity of NGF groups increased significantly. MDA and IL-6 in NGF groups decreased significantly. Cerebral cortex neural cell apoptosis detected that apoptosis cells in NGF group significantly reduced compared to the IR group. Conclusion In the rats with a focal ischemia-reperfusion injury, nerve growth factor has significant neuroprotective effects. NGF can reduce the inflammatory response, improve the metabolism of oxygen free radieals and reduce the apoptosis of brain cell.
