Abstract
Objective To study the clinical significance and relevance of peripheral blood adenosine deaminase (ADA) activity and the T- lymphocyte subpapulations in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis. Methods Automatic biochemistry analysis was conducted to examine peripheral blood adenosine deaminase activity. Flow cytometry was used to examine T- lymphocyte subpop-ulations. Results The peripheral blood ADA activity of pulmonary tuberculosis patients was significantly higher than that in the control group. The activity after two and six months decreased significantly. The peripheral blood CD4 + , CDg+ and CD4 + /CDfl + ratio showed significant differences. ADA activity was significantly correlated with the ratio of CD4+ /CDg+ . Conclusion The increase of ADA activity is related with the ratio imbalance of the T- lymphocyte subpopulations in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis. To detect peripheral blood ADA activity and the T- lymphocyte sub-populations might be useful in condition monitoring, efficacy, prognosis of patients with pulmonary tuberculosis.
