Impact of Delay by Main Road Right-turn Vehicles on Through Vehicles at Unsignalized Intersections

Abstract
The influence of the right-turn vehicles on through vehicles were analyzed at unsignalized crossings and T-intersections, and the delay model of the through vehicles were established for the two types of intersections respectively. Quantitative analysis was conducted to show the relationship between speed, right-turn proportion, flow rate of single lane, right-turn speed and delay of through vehicles. At last, the formulas were verified through data comparison at an intersection and the calculation results were in agreement with the field results. This shows that the delay model is practical and can be used as a basis to support geometry improvement of unsignalized intersections and reduce the massive delay on going-straight vehicles.关键词
