Abstract

In the U-shaped and multi-branched coal-bed methane (CBM) wells, sloughing which is likely to result in flow path blocking up, is one of the main limiting factors for CBM production. PE screen completion is a kind of method to resolve the problem. PE screen can support the well hole effectively, and reduce the damage caused by sloughing. PE screen is injected from the surface through pipes. With pushing force in one end and friction in the other end, buckling will occur when certain length of the PE screen injected. Pumping can relieve the buckling and lead the screen to preset position. The shape and size of pressure-bearing shoulder which is located at the front end of PE screen guiding unit are key factors for the pumping effect. With simplified model, the formula of fluid impact force was deduced. The method for obtaining coefficient of resistance was analyzed using field test, and the effect of pumping method was testified. The results show that the impact force is in proportion to the square of differential velocity between the drilling fluid and the PE screen guiding unit. The resistance coefficient is determined by the fit clearance between the shoulder and inner wall of the pipes.
