Synthesis of waterborne end capped polyurethane for cotton fabric finishing

Abstract
The waterborne end capped polyurethane was synthesized from toluene diisocyante (TDI),dimethylolpropionic acid (DMPA) .polypropylene glycol (PPG) and ethyl methyl acetoxime (EMAO), and characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectrometer (FTIR). The mass concentration 120 g/L of finishing emulsion was prepared with the waterborne end capped polyurethane. The cotton fabric was passed through two-dip-two-dry (60%-70% wet pick-up) process and was cured for 3 min at 140 °C et al. The crease recovery angle of the treated cotton fabric increased from 138.73° of the original cotton fabric to 158.7°. The breaking force of warp direction and weft direction of the treated cotton fabric were about 14.2% and 17.3% greater than that of the original cotton fabric, respectively. The mechanism of the wrinkle resistance and breaking force raise was discussed according to the cel-lulosic molecular structure and FTIR characteristic absorption of the treated fabric.关键词
