Abstract
The hydrology model is always one of the most important research means throughout the water science. The digital elevation model ( DEM) constitutes the essential data of GIS and many important hydrology characteristic parameters can be extracted using DEM data. Through the study of basic principles and the achieving means about hydrological feature information extraction based on DEM, hydrolog-ical feature information extraction is implemented using hydrological analysis toolbox which is provided by the geographic information system software of ArcGIS 9. 3. By the comparition of extraction results with the original image map area, it is confirmed that hydrological feature information which is extracted by using DEM is similar to the actual feature information. As a result, the method of extracting basin hydrology characteristic information by using DEM is feasible and effective.
