Effects of Different Afforestation Technique on the Physiological and Biochemical Characteristics of Populus szechuanica var.tibetica

Abstract
An afforestation experiment was carried out at the semi-arid valleys in Tibet to examine the effects of different afforestation techniques on the physiological and biochemical characteristics of PopuLus szechuanica var. tibetica leaves, the measures included covering stone, plastic film, straw, egg-tray, and using water retaining agent. The results showed that all the measures promoted the survival rate of afforestation in varying degrees. The relative water content and chlorophyll content in the leaves increased under the different measures, and the content of soluble sugar, malondiadehyde and proline in the leaves decreased, indicating that the application of different afforestation techniques played significant roles in improving the survival rate of afforestation, increasing water use efficiency, and promoting better growth of the trees in semi-arid valleys.关键词
