Abstract

[ Objective ] This paper intended to study the effects of different mixing cotton straw substrates on growth of fruit cucumber seedlings. [ Method ] Urea, diamidogen and water were added in cotton straw composting fermentation, and then the mature cotton stalks with peat, vermiculite, perlite composite matrix made by different proportions as experimental material, the experiment of fruit cucumber nursery was conducted to study the impact of different composite substrates on the growth of fruits of cucumber seedlings. [Result]The results showed that different formula compound substrates had significantly different effects on the growth of the fruit cucumber seedlings , the cotton straw (the diamine processing): vermiculite; peat = 2 : 1:1 was the best, whose bulk density was 0. 27 g/cm3, total porosity 84.72% , air space 26. 34% , water holding pores 58. 38% , pH 6. 88,EC 1.11 ms/cm. The growth state, chlorophyll content were high in this proportion of substrate. Pure cotton stalk formula was the worst in all the treatments. [ Conclusion] The cotton straw (the diamine processing) : vermiculite: peat = 2:1: 1 could be recommended as a feasible substrate for fruit cucumber seedlings.
