Abstract

Objective We sought to assess the efficacy and safety of combined 308nm excimer laser and oral thymopeptides in the treatment of adult vititigo involving the head and face. Methods 85 patients with vitiligo were randomly divided into experimental group (n=44) treated with 308nm excimer laser (biw) and thymopeptides (10mg bid), and control group (n=41) treated with simple 308nm excimer laser.Patients were treated for at least 25 times. Clinical responses were documented during clinic visits, and by pre-treatment and post-treatment photography. Results While the study completed, repigmentation was observed in 95.45%(42/44) of experimental group lesions and in 87.8%(36/41) of control group lesions. Significant improvement (a repigmentation rate of 50% or more) was obtained in 72.73%(32/44) of experimental group lesions and 51. 22%(21/41) of control group lesions. Within the 6 following months, of 30 patients in every group, the treated lesions of experimental group were remained stably or got better continued, but 2 lesions of control group recurred. Conclusions The 308nm excimer laser was safe and effective in treatment of adult vitiligo involving the head and face. Combination treatment of oral thymopeptides could improve the efficacy significantly and prevent from recurrence.
