Abstract
Objective To evaluate the implementation of clinical pathway for type 1 diabetes ( T1DM ). Methods A prospective study was carried out on a cohort of 38 consecutive T1DM patients after the application of the clinical pathway group and compared with the results of a historical cohort of 22 patients that had been treated before the application of the clinical pathway group, 21 patients completed the clinical pathway and 17 patients uncompleted. The costs in hospital, variability, and duration of hospital stay were recorded and compared. Results Compared with before the application of the clinical pathway group and after the application of the clinical pathway group had significantly lower nursing costs ( P <0. 05 ). Before the application of the clinical pathway group and after the application of the clinical pathway group were not significantly different in terms of hospital stay, total hospital costs, western medicine fees, Chinese medicine fees, radiology fees, laboratory fees, and other costs ( P > 0. 05 ). The clinical pathway group had significantly shorter hospital stay and lower total costs of hospitalization, cost of care, and Western medicine fees ( P < 0. 05 ), although the Chinese medicine fees, radiology fees, laboratory fees, medical fees, inspection fees were not significantly different ( P >0. 05 ). Of these 38 patients, 55 variations ( including 24 positive variations and 31 negative variations ) were detected. Conclusion The application of the clinical pathway for patients of Tl DM can reduce the hospital stay and lower the health care costs.关键词
