Reliability and validity of the Chinese version of World Health Organization Quality of Life-Disability Scales for physical disability

Abstract
Objective: To examine the acceptability, reliability and validity of the Chinese version of World Health Organization Quality of Life-Disability Scales for physical disability (WHOQOL-DIS Scales for PD) for the study of quality of life of Chinese with disability. Methods: A sample of 807 persons with physical disability (per-sons with disability except for those with intellectual disability) in Guangzhou was recruited through multi-stage sampling method, 109 of them were volunteered to be retested one week later. The scales were accessed with accessibility and reliability as well as validity. Also the Satisfaction with Life Scale was used as the criteria to exam the criteria validity. Results: The response rate of WHOQOL-DIS Scales for PD was 99. 2% , missing item rate was less than 5. 0% except for the item about sexual life with missing rate equaling 35. 7%. The Cronbach a coefficient of 5 subscales was between 0. 77 - 0. 84, and the intraclass correlation coefficient ranged from 0. 82 to 0. 91 after the one-week later retest of the scales. And each item was correlated with its subscales with rank correlation coefficient equaling 0. 30 - 0. 84, which was higher than those with other subscales. Confirmatory factor analysis showed good fitness of the scales. The scores of domains of the WHOQOL-DIS Scales were positively correlative with that of the Satisfaction with Life Scale, and the correlation coefficient ranged from 0. 15 to 0. 45. Conclusions: The results support that the Chinese Version of World Health Organization Quality of Life-Disability Scales for physical disability was acceptable, reliable and valid and could be used in the study of quality of life in Chinese subjects with disability.关键词
