摘要

Abstract

[Objective]The present experiment was aimed to evaluate the therapeutic effect of Potentilla kleiniana extract against experimental Salmonella pullorum in chicken. [Method]Five extracting methods viz., water decoction, water decoction combined with ethanol extracting, microwave extracting, ethyl acetate extracting and ethanol grading extracting were used to extract Potentilla kleiniana and minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) in several extracts of different polarity zones were measured to screen out the best extraction method; subsequently, the Potentilla kleiniana extract with three different dosages (high, moderate, and low) were drenched to treat one-day-old chicks infected with artificial Salmonella pullorum, then the therapeutic effects were assessed using norfloxacin as the medical control. [Result]The water extract, obtained from water decoction, showed the most potent antimicrobial activity to Salmonella pullorum and Escherichia coli in chicken, and the MIC of Salmonella pullorum and Escherichia coli were 5.21 and 10.41 mg/mL, respectively. The optimal treatment effective rate of chicken reached 86.7% through drenching 0.75 mL/chicken once a day for 3 days consecutively after infecting Salmonella pullorum for 18 hours. [Conclusion]Safe, inexpensive, and low-toxic Potentilla kleiniana extract could effectively inhibit gram-negative bacterium; hence, Potentilla kleiniana extract is of high research and developmental value.
