Carbon storage in urban green space

Abstract
This study analyzed the domestic and foreign research progresses of carbon storage in urban green space in order to provide useful references for future carbon cycle researches in urban green space. [Method]Along with literary analysis, the green space carbon storage and flux conceptual model was constructed in order to study carbon researches from recent years, including urban greenbelt vegetation carbon storage, soil organic carbon pool, micro-biomass carbon, and black carbon. [Result]The results showed that large arbor trees were the major contributors to the vegetation carbon storage, which were markedly affected by the plant community coenotype, the urban functional area, and the green space age. In general, the organic carbon storage in urban green space was several times higher than that in urban vegetations. It is evident that the carbon storage of soils in city was higher than that in the suburbs and rural areas. The organic carbon storage in green space, carbon in microbial biomass, and charcoal were affected distinctly by the vagetation form, the urban functional area, the land use, and the soil layer. [Suggestion]Consequentially, three research priorities in urban green spaces were proposed: strengthening the long-term field studies regarding the vegetation carbon pools, studying the effects of human disturbances on soil carbon pools, and establishing the standards of soil and plant sampling under highly spatial heterogeneous urban environment.关键词
