Comparison of Transverse Joint Types of Precast Concrete Cellular Slab Bridges

Abstract
Precast concrete cellular slab bridges have been widely applied in national highways and city roads in China for its many advantages. However, hinge failure is often observed between adjacent box-beams when traditional transversely hinged joint bridges are in practical operation. That causes different loading mode between design stage and operation stage. After several types of transverse junction in the world are introduced, a new type of cellular bridge mainly using diaphragm to connect the precast box-beams is proposed in this paper. In this type, the transverse mechanical performance of cellular slab bridges is more definite. The research results show that the number of diaphragm has little impact on lateral distribution and deformation for cellular slab bridges, and the diaphragm mechanical reliability can be guaranteed by application of transverse pre-stress.关键词
