Introduction and Breeding of a New Forage Variety in Phleum pratense L.cv. Climax

Abstract
Phleum pratense L. Is a most important perennial grass suitable for cool and moist environment; however, varieties examined and approved and reports on them are few in China. Therefore, breeding new variety of it will be of great significance in developing grass science. Several years of experimental planting, regional test and production test of Phleum pratense L. Cv. Climax introduced from Canada have been conducted in Yanbian of Jilin province since 2002. In 2009, it was examined and approved as a new variety by the National Grass Variety Approval Committee. The variety is of high yield and quality, its hay yield is 5 442.5—5 860.0 kg/hm2, and its crude protein content is 7.73 % in heading stage. It is suitable for planting in eastern part of Jilin province, and cool or cold regions in temperate of China.关键词
