Abstract
Objective To investigate the influence of metabolic syndrome (MS) on carotid atherosclerosis in patients with cerebral infarction. Methods The 30 cerebral infraction ( CI) patients with MS, 37 CI patients with hypertension(HT) and 21 simple CI patients were examined by carotid ultrasound sonography. The conditions of formation and properties of the carotid plaque in these 3 groups were compared. Results The detection rate, total number of carotid plague and unstable plagues in the CI with MS group were significantly higher than those in the CI with HT and simple CI groups(P<0.05 - 0.01) , and the number of stable plaques was more than that in the simple CI group(P<0.05) ; the IMT value and the plaques area in MS group were significantly larger than those in CI with HT and simple CI groups ( P < 0.05 - 0.01 ). There was no significant differences in all the indicators above mentioned between the CI with HT group and simple CI group. Conclusion The MS has a significant influence on the formation and pathological degree of carotid atherosclerosis in CI patients, and this effect is even more important than HT.关键词
