On Opening-Closing-Mouth (开合口) and Chongniu (重纽) of Phonological Rhymes in Annotations to Han Shu (汉书注) by Yan Shigu
摘要
Abstract
After conducting a contrastive study on Fanqie (反切), a traditional method of indicating the pronuncia- tion of a Chinese character by using two other Chinese characters, and sounds including initial consonants and sim- ple or compound vowels in Annotations to Han Shu (汉书注) by Yan Shigu, the paper examines the nature of O- pening-Closing-Mouth(开合口) and Chongniu (重纽) of phonological rhymes that imitated ancient models. It is argued that the Opening-Closing-Mouth ( 开合口 ) relationship on phonological rhymes that imitated ancient models is fairly consistent, and that labial words do not differentiate between opening and closing mouths. Besides, the Chongniu (重纽) vowels of laryngeal, labial, and dentilabial rhymes that imitated ancient models do not have cor- relations in terms of the second character of Fanqie (反切), and we should not use the second character of Fanqie (反切) of ancient models to differentiate the Chongniu (重纽) category of scheduled characters.关键词
