Abstract

Cassava is an important tropical energy plant. SC8, SC9, SC10, SC11 are new cassava varieties with high-quality, developed and promoted by the Tropical Crops Genetic Resources Institute of Chinese Academy of Tropical Agriculture Sciences. This paper mainly investigated the chromosome numbers and analyzed the karyotypes of SC8, SC9, SC10, SC11 with the method of wall degradation hypotonic. Our results showed that the four varieties presented the same chromosome number of 2n=36. The karyotype formulas were as follow: SC8 2n=36=30 m(4SAT)+6 sm (2SAT), SC9 2n=36=30 m(6SAT)+6 sm, SC10 2n=36=32 m+4 sm, SC11 2n=36=34 m+2 sm(2SAT). Among these, the karyotype of SC8, SC9, SC10 belongs to Stebbins "1A", while that of SC11 belongs to "1B". The study will provide cytological basis for the breeding, germp lasm analysis and gene location of Manihot esculenta Crantz.
