Abstract
This study establishes the wave hierarchies describing the flood propagation and its interactions with river bed evolution in alluvial rivers of heavy sediment,based on the theory of nonlinear simple waves.The wave hierarchies consist of higher-order and lower-order waves,and these wave patterns are different in scale and motivation.The multiple time scales of interactions between fluid flow,sediment transport and bed evolution can be illustrated by the interlacing of dynamic waves,kinetic waves,and river bed waves.The property of the wave hierarchies shows that the feedback of high sediment concentration and large-scale riverbed deformation on flood propagation cannot be ignored.Furthermore,when the length scale becomes larger,the lower-order waves will play a more dominant role in the wave hierarchies.Therefore,the kinetic wave will mainly determine the flood propagation in long natural rivers.关键词
