Abstract

With regard to the abnormal phenomenon that the observed data of Dahua Hydroelectric Power Plant show that the horizontal displacement of overflow dam is toward the downstream in summer and autumn, while the concrete dams generally have the contrary variation rules owing to temperature rise, through the FEM calculations and the in-depth comparison of observed data, the special deformation rules of overflow dam of Dahua Hydroelectric Power Plant are true and reliable. This phenomenon is reflected by the geological conditions of dam foundation and the operation modes of hydropower station. The causes for the abnormal phenomenon are as follows: the fluctuating range of the upstream water level of Dahua Hydroelectric Power Plant is small, while that of the downstream one is quite large; during the flood period, the vertical component of the downstream water pressure acts on the overflow dam surface and the apron, it will cause the dam foundation to turn towards the downstream direction under the combined action of the upstream water pressure, resulting in that the crest of the overflow dam goes towards the downstream in summer. The FEM calculations show that the deformation modulus of the dam foundation is low, and the impact of geological defects on the deformation is validated to some extent.
