Abstract
Objective To estimate the nursing effect of oxygen-driven inhalation with or without distilled water in humidifier bottles in the tracheotomy patients with head injury. Methods Sixty patients with tracheotomy were randomly divided into two groups: control and experimental group. The experimental group used oxygen-driven inhalation with distilled water in the humidifier bottles in the tracheotomy patients with head injury, whereas the control group without distilled water in the humidifier bottles. The initial sputum volume, oxygen saturation, heart rate, humidification effect, sputum viscosity and sputum formation were observed. Results There was no statistical significance in oxygen saturation (98.7 + 11.2 vs 94.4 ± 10.7), heart rate (73.9±11.57 vs 80.0 ± 12.31), humidification effect, sputum viscosity and sputum formation (3.33% vs 6.67%) in the two groups (P ＞ 0.05). Conclusion Oxygen-driven inhalation with or without distilled water had no effect on oxygen-driven inhalation therapy in head injury patients after tracheotomy.
