Effects of parenteral nutrition with alanyl glutamine on nutrition and immune function of the gastrointestinal cancer patients

Abstract
Objective To investigate the effects of alanyl glutamine parenteral nutrition injection on nutritional status and immune function in gastrointestinal cancer patients. Methods A total of 84 cases of gastrointestinal cancer patients were randomly divided into control group and experimental group and each group included 42 cases. After surgery all patients were given parenteral nutrition therapy with same calorie (98. 0 kJ ? Kg-1 · d-1) and nitrogen (0.25 g ? Kg-1 ? D-1) for 1 - 7 days. The patients in the experimental group were additionally used the alanyl - glutamine injection 0. 5 g ? Kg-1? D-1 . The serum albumin, serum precursor protein, the cells and humoral immunity and nitrogen balance changes before operation and after operation 2 days and 7 days were observed and analyzed. Results Two groups of patients with serum albumin , prealbumin on second postoperative day were significantly decreased compared with preoperative data (P < 0. 01). On the 7th postoperative day the serum albumin and prealbumin in both groups were raised, but the control group rebounded slower than experimental group (P < 0.05). The cellular immune indicators and humoral immunity of patients had declined. The value of IgG in control group in the 7 th postoperative day was lower than the preoperative ( P < 0. 05 ) , and the other indicators
were recovered to the preoperative. The values of IgA and IgG in the experimental group were significantly higher than the control group ( P < 0. 05). The nitrogen balance of the experimental group was better than the control group after operation 7 days (P <0. 01). Conclusion Parenteral nutrition therapy plusing alanyl - glutamine injection can be effective in improving the body's nutritional and immune status, thus contributing to the prognosis of patients with gastrointestinal cancer.关键词
