Abstract

For strain insulator strings using composite insulators it is necessary to consider its reliability under various operating conditions. In view of its high occurrence frequency, the aeolian vibration is the most common operating condition of insulator strings. The present application condition of composite insulators and strain insulator strings are summarily presented and the stress condition of strain sting composed of composite insulators under aeolian vibration is analyzed, and a testing platform is constructed for the research on vibration of parallel multi strain composite insulator strings applied in UHV power transmission lines and the simulated aeolian vibration test for multi-sets of strain composite insulator strings are performed. Test results show that the decrease of mechanical performance of strain composite insulator strings due to aeolian vibration is less than 5%, thus it is proved that applying composite insulators in strain string is feasible. It is recommended that to further assess its mechanical reliability a withstanding test of strain composite insulator string should be performed by applying 1.2 times of rated mechanical load with duration of 24 hours to it after the 30 million vibration test for strain composite insulator string.
