Abstract

An investigation was conducted regarding the adsorption of methyl orange in aqueous solutions by oyster shell powder. Then various affecting factors on the adsorption were optimized. Results showed that the equilibrium adsorption capacity could reach 18.6 mg·g-1 and the removal rate could reach 74.2% under the optimum conditions, e. g. , 50 mg·L-1 of initial concentration, 35 ℃ of the adsorption temperature, 0.1 g of oyster shells powder and 120 min of the adsorption time. The adsorption process followed the Langmuir adsorption isotherm, i. e. , Ce/qe =0.0148 Ce +0.5496, and the maximum adsorption capicity of methyl orange was calculated to be 67.57 mg·g-1 from the Langmiur isotherm.
