The ApoB/ApoA1 ratio is associated with insulin resistance in polycystic ovary syndrome patients

Abstract
Objective To assess the correlation between insulin resistance ( IR ) and the ApoB/ApoAl ratio in polycystic ovary syndrome ( PCOS ) patients. Methods Anthropometric measurements and biochemical parameters were assessed in 570 PCOS patients. The high ApoB/ApoAl ratio was defined as the upper quartile of the ApoB/ApoAl ratios ( ≥0.68 ), as the remaining three quartiles were merged into the low ApoB/ApoAl ratio. IR was diagnosed if the patients met at least one out of the following three criteria: ( 1 ) impaired glucose tolerance ( IGT ), ( 2 ) DM, ( 3 ) the fasting serum G: I ratio ( G:I) less than 4. 5 mg/10 -4 U. Results The percentage of patients with IR was significantly greater in the high ApoB/ApoAl ratio group than that in the low ApoB/ApoAl ratio group. Furthermore, patients in the high ApoB/ ApoAl ratio group were 2. 27 times more likely to get IR than those in the low ApoB/ApoAl ratio group. Conclusion The severity and risk of IR gradually increase as the ApoB/ApoAl ratio elevated in the young PCOS patients.关键词
