Study of unbalanced circular current suppressing for modular multilevel converter

Abstract
As to suppress three-phase circulating current in MMC under unbalanced condition, first, power analysis and network decomposition are made. Then, a method is proposed to simplify four sequence networks of MMC inverter under unbalanced condition to positive and negative network by controlling the active power constant of inverter exit side. Third, mechanism and dynamic performance of circulating current in negative networks are further discussed, and the method of transforming three-phase circulating current to direct component through positive sequence frequency doubling rotation transformation is put forward. Last, combined with the conclusions about positive-sequence circulating current characteristics and suppressing control method in existing references, a novel design of unbalanced circular current suppressing controller for MMC based on double synchronous rotating coordinate transform is obtained. The reported simulation results of 61 levels modular converters confirm that the proposed circulating current suppressing controller can both keep the normal operation of MMC under unbalanced condition and suppress the inner circulating current on the premise of not increasing the current-limiting reactance of bridge arm.关键词
