Abstract

Experimental study of blast-resistant masonry walls is reviewed in this paper. Considering the advantages and disadvantages of existing testing methods, an impact testing method for masonry walls is proposed by using the drop hammer machine based on the current condition of the laboratory of Hunan University. The basic theory, equipment, and testing system of the drop hammer machine are introduced, as well as the impact testing program for masonry walls. Impact tests of two masonry walls using drop hammer machine were conducted, with one strengthened by CFRP sheets. Based on the discussion of testing phenomena and results, the feasibility of u-sing the drop hammer machine to investigate the behaviour of impact-resistant walls was verified.
