Abstract

The plating process of electroplated diamond wire saw is always the key point that restricts its production. Since it is difficult to study the flow of liquid stream by the way of quantitative analysis, a way of qualitative analysis is applied to illustrate the effects of two different kinds of flowing patterns, eddy current and steady flow, on the morphology of electroplated diamond wire saw. Also, the experimental research is carried out on plating process through horizontally placed steel wire at various current densities and vertically placed steel wire at different depths. For the 10 ~20 μm diamond powders, the results show that it is difficult to precipitate adequate diamond powder under the circumstance of eddy current. This is because that the influence of scouring force of liquid stream on diamond is so great that it presents the diamond powders to be absorbed into coating, and thus has a negative effect on plating process. While in the case of steady flow, no matter what current densities are or how to place the steel wire, the wire with higher diamond quantity can be obtained. Especially when the wire is vertical placed, the uniform distribution and moderate quantity of diamonds are quite beneficial to produce high quality diamond wire saw. Meanwhile, it is also noticed that the shaking of steel wire has great impact on the morphology in the plating process. The essential cause can be attributed to effect of liquid stream.
