Relationship between TCM Constitution and β-cell Function in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes

Abstract
Objective The study was to observe the relationship between the TCM constitution and beta-cell function of type 2 diabetes. Methods 74 type2 diabetes cases were assessed to distinguish their TCM constitution by the Questionnaire of TCM constitution. The fasting plasma glucose (FPG), blood lipids, the levels of the blood glucose and insulin after a standard meal load were determined, at the same time beta-cell function index (HOMA-β) and insulin resistance index (HOMA-IR) were calculated. Results In the type 2 diabetes, the phlegm dampness constitution, Yin deficiency constitution and blood stasis constitution were more than other constitution types. The levels of the 2 hour blood glucose in Yin deficiency constitution and blood stasis constitution was higher than that in phlegm dampness constitution and Qi deficiency constitution. HOMA-IR in phlegm dampness constitution was higher than that in other constitution types, HOMA-β in blood stasis constitution was lower than that in other constitution types. Conclusions the levels of the 2 hour blood glucose after a standard meal load, lipid, HOMA-β and HOMA-IR were different in different constitutions of type 2 diabetes.关键词
