Abstract

A fundamental study of the combustion behaviors of sludge, straw and mixtures were investigated by thermo-gravimetric analyzer in 20~1 000 ℃ at the heating rate of 20 ℃/min.The results indicated that sludge, straw and their mixtures showed different mass loss properties and co-comustion characteristics. The ignition temperature of single sludge is 334.2 ℃, because of the slow burning rate of sludge at the beginning of combustion, it was not conducive to form a high combustion temperature and the combustion process was uneven. When mixed with straw, the volatile of straw separated out and ignited in lower temperature, which intensified the reaction and improved the blends combustion stability as well as burnout level. The values of ignition temperature decreased with the increasing ratio of straw in the blends,the appearance temperature of maximum combustion rate decreased and combustion characteristics of the blends were improved. When mixed proportion of straw/sludge was 20/80, the calorific value of mixed samples achieved 13 911 kJ/kg.
