摘要

Abstract

Objective To explore the effect of gender on visuo-spatial rotation information processing in schizophrenia. Methods A total of 42 schizophrenia patients (22 males and 20 females,schizophrenia group) and 40 normal healthy volunteers (21 males and 19 females,control group) from Third Hospital of PLA were tested to perform the visuo-spatial rotation tasks,and the wrong frequency and the reaction time for visuo-spatial rotation performance were measured and analyzed. Results ①Compared with the controls,the error rate increased in schizophrenia patients [(10.2 ±3.4)% vs(39.9 ±8.2)%,P<0.05]. The error rates in normal and mirror images were lower in the male than those in the female in control group (P < 0.05). But no significant difference was found between male and female in schizophrenia patients (P > 0.05). ②Compared with control group [ (682. 2 ± 81.4 ) ms ] , the response time in schizophrenia group significantly increased [ (846.5 ±86. 3) ms ,P < 0.05 ]. The response time in normal and mirror images were shorter in the male than that in the female in control group (P<0.05). But no significant difference was found between male and female schizophrenia patients (P > 0.05). ③Linear regression analysis showed the error rate and reaction time in mirror and normal images linearly increased with the angle of rotation in controls (P <0. 001). And the error rates and reaction time in mirror and normal images were linearly increased in female schizophrenia patients( P < 0. 001) ,and the tendency was similar to that of the controls. But the error rate and reaction time in mirror and normal images were not significantly increased in male schizophrenia patients (P >0.05) . Conclusion The visuo-spatial rotation information processing is impaired in the male schizophrenia patients. But the female schizophrenia patients are only displaying a diminished attention allocation,which causes the recognition and encoding process damages in the perceptions system. It suggests that the character of female with a lower ability in a certain degree can protect the mechanism of visuo-spatial information processing.
