Abstract
Objective To investigate the expressions and the clinical significance of Livin and Caspase-3 in gastric cancer. Methods The expressions of livin and Caspase-3 in 76 cases of gastric cancer tissues and 30 cases of adjacent normal gastric mucosa were detected by immunohistochemical staining (PV-9000 2-step plus). The apoptosis of 76 cases of gastric cancer tissues was detected by TDT-mediated DNA in situ end labeling (TUNEL) method. Results The expressions of Livin and Caspase-3 in gastric cancer tissues were significantly different from those in the adjacent normalgastric mucosa (P < 0.05). The expression of Livin was closely correlated with the differentiation, depth, and lymph node metastasis of gastric cancer; and that of Caspase-3 was correlated with the differentiation and lymph node metastasis (P< 0.05). The average apoptosis index in Livin positive group was significantly lower than that in Livin negative group (P < 0.05), and that in caspase-3 positive group was significantly higher than that in caspase-3 negative group (P < 0.05). The total five-year survival rate was 46.8% in 56 patients. Univariant analysis and multivariate analysis showed that lymph node metastasis and Livin were independent prognostic factors for patients with gastric cancer (P < 0.05). Conclusions The abnormal expressions of livin and Caspase-3 in gastric cancer tissues may play a role in the occurrence and development of gastric cancer. Lymph node metastasis and livin were the independent prognostic factors for patients with gastric cancer.关键词
