Abstract
Objective To evaluate the effectivity and safety of ertapenem in the treatment of lower
respiratory tract bacterial infection. Methods A multicentre, prospective and open label clinical trail was conducted. One hundred and twenty-four cases were included and evaluated. The dosage of the drug was 1.0 g, once daily injection, the duration of treatment was 7~14 days. Any unexpected symptoms and abnormal laboratory results were recorded during the observing period. The clinical and bacterial curative effect and safety were evaluated at the end of treatment. Results The response rate was 75.5% (80/106) , 81.3% (13/16) , 100% (2/2) respectively in treating community acquired pneumonia, acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease , bronchitis with ertapenem. The total response rate was 76.6% (95/124) , the bacterial clearance rate was 90.3% (28/31). The total adverse effect occurrence rate was 2.4 % ( 3/124). Conclusion Ertapenem is an effective and safe drug in treating lower respiratory tract bacterial infection.
