Abstract

Hierarchically composite scaffold (MBG/CPC) was successfully prepared by loading of mesoporous bio-active glasses (MBG) into macroporous calcium phosphate cement (CPC) with simply centrifuging method. It is revealed that MBG loading capacity on CPC and the BET surface area of MBG/CPC can reach 47.2% and 100.1 m2/g, respectively. In contrast, almost no MBG loading is detected by using traditional impregnation route. Drug loading and releasing tests show that DOX loading capacity on hierarchically composite scaffold MBG/CPC is 46 mg/g, which is 11.5 times of that on pure CPC. Importantly, a sustained drug release in vitro performance is presented on MBG/CPC.
