Abstract
Objective Previous sludies suggest that inflammalion factors are elevated in patienls with alrial fibrillation (AF). However, coronary artery disease ( CAD) , which is often presenl in the same populations, is relaled Lo the raising of iflammalion markers, and may presenl as a confounder in these studies. We therefore examined the association belween biomarkers of inflammalion and AF in palienls wilh known CAD. Methods We performed a cross - seclional analysis of 670 palienls wilh stable coronary artery diseases from July 2008 lo June 2011, 32 of whom had AF. Inlerleukin -6 (IL-6), C- reaclive prolein ( CRP) , tumor necrosis faclor - α ( TNF - α) , monocyle chemoallraclanl prolein - 1 (MCP -1) , and fibrinogen (Fg) levels were determined in all the palients. Results In the CAD palienls wilh or wilhoul AF, demographic characleristics were different. Age, rale of male, smoking slalus, hislory of heart failure, and left alrial volume were higher in palienls wilh AF. In unadjusted analyses, IL - 6 was the only biomarker significantly associated wilh AF (median IL - 6 3. 54 and 2. 36 ng/L in those wilh and wilhoul AF, respectively, P = 0. 001). Based on mullivariate analysis, IL - 6 was also the only faclor related lo AF (Odds Ratio 1.7, 95% CI: 1. 32 -2.14,P =0.024). Conclusions In palienls wilh CAD, AF is significantly associated wilh elevated IL - 6 levels. No associations were found with other biomarkers, including C -reactive prolein, lumor necrosis faclor - α, monocyle chemoallraclanl prolein - 1, and fibrinogen levels.关键词
