Abstract

Pure chitosan/silica hybrid membrane and carboxymethyl chitosan/silica hybrid membrane were prepared through crosslinking with aminopropyltriethoxysilane (KH550) and chitosan and carbosymethyl chito-san. The two kinds of hybrid membranes were characterized by FT-IR. The swelling properties, influences of copper ions concentration, membranes mass, temperature, pH and time on adsorption of heavy metal copper ions of hybrid membranes were studied. The results showed that new bonds formed in both of the hybrid membranes. Si-O-Si and Si-C were introduced in hybrid membranes and the swelling property of carboxymethyl chitosan/silica hybrid membrane reduced compared with pure chitosan hybrid membrane. Under room temperature, pH=6, 0.05 mol/L of copper ions concentration, 45 min and 90 min of adsorption, respectively, chitosan/silica hybrid membrane and carboxymethyl chitosan/silica hybrid membrane both had good adsorption performance on copper ions, and carboxymethyl chitosan/silica hybrid membrane had better adsorption capacity than chitosan/silica hybrid membrane. The adsorption kinetics research indicated that the adsorption of Cu2+ on hybrid membranes accorded with second kinetics model.
