Fast Group Search Optimizer and Its Application to the Economic Dispatch of Power Systems

Abstract
Economic dispatch (ED) is an important task in the optimization problems of a power system. To obtain a more accurate and realistic ED model, the valve-point effect and the multiple fuels of units are considered. However, the ED model is non-convex, high-dimensional, non-linear and non-differentiable, which makes it more difficult to be solved. To solve the ED model better, a fast group search optimizer (FGSO) was proposed, which can obtain more accurate results with less computation. The ED model on three test systems was solved and the simulation results showed that FGSO converged faster, consumed less time and obtained results with smaller value of fuel cost than the other algorithms adopted in this paper. Furthermore, FGSO performed especially well in the optimization problems with multiple local optimum values. Thus, FGSO is feasible, fast and effective in solving the complex ED model.关键词
