Reliability and validity of the Chinese version of Emotional Contagion Scale in college students

Abstract
Objective: To assess the reliability and validity of the Chinese version of Emotional Contagion Scale (ECS) in Chinese college students. Methods: Totally 522 college students completed the forecasting version of ECS. Another sample of 565 college students completed the formal Chinese version of ECS, 283 for exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and 282 for confirmatory factor analysis ( CFA). Totally 76 of them were re - tested 4 weeks later. Results: The Chinese version of ECS was a 13 - item self - reported scale consisting of 4 basic emotions (love, happiness, sadness, and fear) which explained 56. 7% of the total variance. Thirteen items of Chinese version of ECS had good discriminability. The fit indices of the measurement were improved. The internal consistency reliability coefficients were 0. 74 for the total scale, and 0. 61 -0. 76 for the 4 factors. The 4 week test - retest reliability coefficients were 0. 79 for the total scale, and 0. 74 -0. 82 for the 4 factors. Males scored higher in "love" than females, while females scored higher in "happiness", "sadness", "fear" and the total scores (Ps <0. 05). Conclusion: It suggests that the Chinese version of Emotional Contagion Scale has satisfactory reliability and validity, and could be used to assess susceptibility to emotional contagion in Chinese college students.关键词
