Abstract

In this paper, the effects of boron on microstructure and properties of ADI were researched. The results show that with the increase of the boron content, graphite spheroidization reduces, graphite size increases, the number of graphite declines, and the amount of carbide increases in the as-cast specimens; after austenitizing at 900 ℃ for 1.5 h and austempered at 280 ℃ for 2 h, the microstructure is composed of graphite nodule, ausferrite and a small amount of carbide, and the form of boron is Fe12(CB )6, Fe2B and Fe3B. When boron content is in the range of 0-0.020%, with the increase of boron content, Brinell hardness, tensile strength and wear resistance rise while elongation decreases. According to the sample containing 0.020% boron, Brinell hardness reaches the peak at HBW484 and maximal tensile strength is 1 470 MPa, while wear rate and elongation acquire the minimum at 1.12 mg/m and 1 %, respectively.
