Abstract
Strengthening and improving college students" education of patriotism is not merely one of the important parts of the ideological and political education of colleges and universities but also necessarily required by the socialist core value system. In view of the new situations both at home and abroad, the special significance of strengthening and improving the college students" education of patriotism is analyzed from such angles of view as the socialist core value system, the ideological and political education of colleges and universities, defending state sovereignty, maintaining political stability, promoting national development, improving the comprehensive quality of college students, promoting their psychological maturity, etc.. A deep probe is made into the new trends of development and change both at home and abroad in the education of patriotism, the hot spots of society and the severe situations and challenges brought by Internet and the new features that exist in college students themselves.
