Abstract
Objective: To determine the reliability and validity of the Chinese version of Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS) in a population of Chinese urban community-dwelling elderly. Methods: A random sample of 397 residents aged 60 and above was selected from 3 urban communities in Beijing. All the participants were administered GDS, the Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale(CES-D), and Quality of Life Scale(QOLS), of whom 45 received GDS re-assessment after 2 weeks. Results: The item-total correlation coefficients of GDS ranged from 0.248 to 0.567, the average coefficient was 0.414. The internal consistency Cronbach a coefficient of GDS was 0.846 and the two-week re-test reliability was 0.812. Its criterion-related validity coefficients for CES-D and QOLS were 0.787 and -0.450, respectively. The construct validity analysis revealed its unidimensional feature. Conclusion: The Chinese version of GDS has good reliability and validity for Chinese urban community-dwelling elderly population.关键词
