College Students' Self-esteem and Forgiveness:Mediator Effect of Attribution

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the relationship of self-esteem and forgiveness, and to examine the mediator effect of attribution in the relationship. Methods: The items of SES, MMCS and Heartland Forgiveness Scale were administered to 193 college students, and the data was processed by SPSS. Results: There were significant positive correlations between self-esteem and interpersonal forgiveness, self-esteem and self-forgiveness. In addition, internal attribution played a role as partial mediator. Attribution was a complete mediator in the relationship of self-esteem and forgiveness in male students' sample, but the same effect was not found in female student's sample. Conclusion: The discussion will focus on the relationship between self-esteem and forgiveness, and the effect of attribution, the differences of male and female in self-esteem and forgiveness.关键词
