A Comprehensive Low Voltage Ride Through Control Strategy of Wind Turbine Driven Doubly-fed Induction Generator Adapted to Multi-type Faults

Abstract
With the increasing installed capacity of the wind power, the grid will have more and more requirements on the wind farms. In order to achieve low voltage ride through (LVRT) under balanced or unbalanced system conditions, and also provide active and reactive power support to the system, this paper presents a comprehensive LVRT control strategy with combination of hardware and software. The Crowbar can be switched in and switched out depending on the type of fault. Therefore it is more flexible and adaptable. The addition of grid side inverter unbalance control aiming at reactive power control makes it possible for wind turbine driven doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) to provide reactive power support to the main system. Experiment results of three-phase short circuit and two-phase short circuit fault with a 30 kW wind turbine driven DFIG validate the proposed control method.
