Abstract

PLA/PHBV blend, a new kind of biodegradable polymer, was used as carbon source and bio-film support to remove nitrate from contaminated water. The relationship of the effluent and influent nitrate-nitrogen concentrations and hydraulic retention time ( HRT) was quantitatively investigated using response surface methodology at (29 ± 1 ) ℃ and pH (7. 5 ±0. 2). A polynomial regression model was developed with the effluent nitrate-nitrogen concentration as response value. The calculated values of the model agreed well with the experimental data. Influent nitrate-nitrogen concentration, HRT and their interaction had significant impacts on the response value by analysis of variance (P < 0. 01 ).
