Abstract

The leaf expansion information about Catalpa fargesii, C. bungei and C. duclouxii in August 2010 were studied, including leaf length, leaf width, petiole length, leaf area, leaf angle and leaf thickness. The results showed that the mature leaf area of C. duclouxii was the largest in different fast-growing period, but C. fargesii was the least. The development trend of leaf length, leaf width, petiole length, leaf thickness and mature leaf area was C. duclouxii > C. bungei > C. fargesii, the leaf profile was basically unchanged, the leaf shape of C. fargesii was close to circle, C. bungei was oval and C. duclouxi was oblongoval, and the increasing duration of average leaf area was 22d. The change of the leaf expansion rate was fluctuating; the larger of mature leaf area, the slower of the leaf expansion rate; the correlation analysis between leaf expansion rate and the 6 leaf characteristics showed that the leaf expansion rate had significant negative correlation with the 5 leaf characteristics except leaf thickness at P =0. 01 level, leaf area had significant positive correlation with leaf length, leaf width, petiole length and leaf angle respectively at P = 0.01 level, the relationship between leaf area of the three species and growth time was in accord with S curve model in different fast-growing period.
