Study on rejuvenation technique for ancient ginkgo trees

Abstract

On the basis of complete survey of existing ancient ginkgo trees, important factors of influence healthy growth was analysed. According to injury types, the rejuvenation technique had been studied on the unhealthy trees. There were 49 ancient ginkgo trees, 54 percent of these trees grew well, 38. 5 percent were in sub-health, 7. 7 percent were endangered. The damage positions of the trees centred on the roots and main trunk, mainly manifested as roots rotting and bare xylem and cavity of trunk. Spraying ink of pine soot to prevent trunk rotting and grafting young trees to renew roots could rejuvenate ancient ginkgo trees.
